NARCAN® is a potentially lifesaving medication designed to help reverse the effects of an opioid overdose in minutes. Since most opioid overdoses occur in the home and are most often witnessed, having a NARCAN® rescue kit nearby can make all the difference.
If someone you know takes opioids or prescription opioids, such as oxycodone or hydrocodone for pain, be prepared for a possible life-threatening opioid overdose emergency. Please see Indication and Important Safety Information below.

Fentanyl Facts
What is fentanyl?
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50x more potent than heroin and 100x more potent than morphine. It is a major cause of fatal and nonfatal overdoses in the United States.
Fentanyl is now found in a variety of street drugs, including pills, heroin, and cocaine, and only a trace amount can result in an overdose. The majority of recent fentanyl-related overdoses have been linked to illicitly manufactured fentanyl distributed through illegal drug markets.

Signs of Fentanyl Overdose
Recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose can help save a life. Here are a few things to keep an eye out for:
- Small, constricted “pinpoint pupils”
- Falling asleep or losing consciousness
- Slow, weak, or no breathing
- Choking or gurgling sounds
- Limp body
- Cold and/or clammy skin
- Discolored skin (especially in lips and nails)
Fentanyl test strips (FTS) are effective at detecting the presence of fentanyl in drug samples prior to use.
- Prepare drugs in a fresh, clean cooker.
- Set prepared drugs aside
- Add 1/4 inch of clean water to the drug residue.
- Dip the end of the strip in water for 15 seconds.
- Check the strip after 5 minutes. One line means fentanyl, two lines mean no fentanyl.
